The blog subject sounds grandiose, but it isn’t about me!  It’s about the ARTQUILTSwhimsy exhibit currently shown at the Page-Walker Art and History Center in Cary, NC which will run for three more weeks until June 22.  I have only been involved with PAQA-South (Professional Art Quilters Alliance-South) for one year, and this is the  second exhibit that finds me participating.  The show last fall was a member show, and lucky for me, all members had a piece in the show.  This spring, the show has over 40 international, national, and regional exhibitors, chosen by two jurists from about 140 entries.  I volunteered to handle the snacks and beverages during the jurying process because I wanted to watch and learn all about it.  The process was interesting and quite controlled, as it should be.  Watching it will help me design and prepare for future shows.  Only the jurists expressed opinions, and it was difficult to watch them eliminate beautiful art quilts, but we could never have exhibited everything that was submitted, and the choices they made evolved into a beautiful and entertaining show.  I also volunteered to help “hang” this show and the previous one.   While hanging the quilts, I learned that the curators are also impressive in their ability to arrange the quilts to catch the eye of the visitors and have them all “play well together”.  I hope you can make it to downtown Cary to see our show, and if you go, prepare to be impressed! And entertained!

  1. I see you are catching up with my blog! Yes. I have the one of Dalton looking through the drain pipe in this show. It is a really fun show to see due to the “whimsy” element. We’ve been having really sunny, warm days with occasional rain. Nothing too extreme in either direction.
