October 20, 2017 – Friday, Milan
It’s an early start to Milano. The van loads the very heavy luggage, weighed down with delicious cheeses, wines, olive oils and balsamic vinegars. We don’t dare mention the ceramics, scarves and … there has to be something else. The van groaned as the driver stepped on the gas.
We settled in at Hotel Berna. Once settled, we took a more leisurely pace. There are only four of us remaining. Katie and Walt left us in Arezzo and returned to New Mexico, via Pisa.
We walked to the beautiful Duomo di Milano and wandered around that piazza, visiting the beautiful shops in the Galleria.
Then we headed to Peck’s where we settled into the coffee shop for our last bottle of Prosecco and tray of prosciutto, salami, and cheeses.
Just four of us remain by the time we get to Milano. We enjoyed our farewell at Peck’s and got set for the airport in the morning. That brings this blog on Italy to an end. I will return to blogging about art quilts again as soon as I get back into my studio and begin to create. Ah Italy. What a show you have given us…. never to forget.

Narrative Textile Illustrations 
It was an unusual sort of trip, concentrating on culture and food, not just sightseeing. There still were extravagant vistas from the cultural locations we visited, and I love seeing the countryside and the lifestyle of those working there. Andrea and I both enjoyed the architecture in the cities and the country towns and along the roads. The hilltop towns are always so amazing to see and then realize that people still live modern lives there.

Lucky for me, Andrea’s suitcase only weighed 35lbs on arrival, but weighed 49lbs upon leaving. She took some of my clothing so I could fit all of my breakables into my carry on bag. I had taken a lot of clothes in my carryon on the way in case my suitcase didn’t arrive. My return checked luggage weighed 50.3 oz, but because I arrived in a wheelchair, they took some pity and only warned me. I could easily have removed 3oz and I think they realized that. I swear (I always swear this), that I will pack less next time. In defense, we did have to bring clothing for two seasons. hmmmm.

It is so nice when our daughters come to our rescue…I am learning this more and more each day…so tell Andrea what a great daughter she is!

This trip has been amazing! Thanks for taking the time to share. I’ve been traveling along from afar. Italy is an incredible country! I loved it and the food! And the views! And the people! It’s so great that you and Andrea could share this experience together. It seems as though these memories will be visiting you and bringing joy for a long time!
